Valley Center Community Planning Group
James Garritson

Age: 39
Husband, Father, and Teacher

WHAT IS YOUR PROFESSIONAL BACKGROUND?

As a middle school teacher with seventeen years of experience teaching history and social studies, I strongly believe in the principles of civic responsibility.

HAVE YOU EVER HELD OFFICE BEFORE? IF SO WHICH ONE?

I have never run for office, but did serve for five years as a board member of a home association in Escondido.

WHAT IS YOUR REASON FOR RUNNING?

Life, Liberty, and Property are inalienable rights that I will actively defend as a member of the Valley Center Community Planning Group.  My wife and two-year-old daughter intend to stay in Valley Center for a lifetime.  I want to represent this community with a strong voice of individual liberty and limited government.

WHAT IS YOUR POLITICAL PLATFORM FOR THIS ELECTION?

My family has now lived in Valley Center for fourteen years. The town has had numerous positive changes during this time, but there still is great work to do within our community to protect and uphold our sacred property rights. My wife and are blessed with one daughter who just turned two. It is for future posterity that I now seek to serve the people of Valley Center. As a teacher of history, a believer in both Truth and Liberty, I hold civic virtue and responsibility as crucial to the fabric of our entire Republic.

I hope to earn your vote and “secure the blessings of Liberty” by serving as a director of the Valley Center Community Planning Group.

WHAT DO YOU FEEL ARE THE BIGGEST CHALLENGES FACED BY THE BOARD YOU WOULD LIKE TO BE A PART OF?

Some people within government enjoy power and authority, while others understand the proper purpose of it. Representatives need to represent the people and work for them. They need to protect all people and businesses within a community. Since many people are not able to attend the monthly meetings of the Valley Center Community Planning Group, it is important that the board is very transparent by sharing all minutes with people in Valley Center through electronic communication.

HOW DO YOU PLAN TO MEET THOSE CHALLENGES?

It is my hope to encourage the board to begin using a website to better share all minutes and introduce the idea of filming all meetings so people can become more involved with the issues within Valley Center. I will encourage our board to begin using tools such as blogs, websites, Facebook, Youtube, and Twitter to share information with our community.

WHAT WILL YOU BRING TO THE TABLE IF ELECTED?

My background as an American history teacher has allowed me to learn and share the foundations of the government of the United States. These ideals have shaped my perspective on the proper role of government. I work for you and will listen to your thoughts and ideas. My M.A. in Educational Technology, B.A. in English, and seventeen years of teaching experience will assist the planning group in sharing online information with people within and outside of Valley Center using tools such as blogs, websites, Facebook, Youtube, and Twitter. Past experience includes serving six years as a director on the board at Escondido Terrace and working in leadership roles at school site. I will protect the rights of all people within our community.

WHAT IS THE MOST IMPORTANT THING FOR VOTERS TO KNOW ABOUT YOU WHEN MAKING THEIR DECISION AT THE POLLS?

Although I have never served as a representative within government, my knowledge of the Declaration of Independence, Constitution, and Bill of Rights makes me a staunch advocate of individual liberty, free markets, and the rule of law. As a representative on the Valley Center board, I will use my voice to defend the property rights of both residents and businesses within our community. Members of the board represent the people of Valley Center and your thoughts will be addressed by me. Please allow me to serve you as a member of the planning group.
